Barcelona is Spain's second largest city, with a population of 1.5 million people, and the capital of Catalonia. The city is on the Mediterranean coast, and has a wealth of unique historic architecture. This is due the historic fact that during the Francisco Franco dictatorship the Spanish language was for a time imposed on Catalonia by law and the native Catalan language prohibited. The upsweeping verticality and lightness of the interior are especially surprising considering the blocky exterior surfaces.

There is a very nice ice cream, waffles and pancake shop located in the square surrounding La Sagrada Família.
